Any way to recover deleted junk email?

I'm using outlook 2003; I found that some useful emails were being
routed to the junk folder after I deleted it's content. I've read here
that if your outlook is set up for it you can recover via tools/recover
but I don't have that. Is there any other way?

I've not closed outlook since the most recent "empty junk mail folder".
I found a ref to
http://www.sparnaaij.net/howto/restoredeleteditemsfromanoutlookpst.htm
which says don't close and reopen the pst; but I at least have to close
it, because I can't copy the pst when it's open.

BTW Exchange is not involved.

Recover Deleted Items is only available if you connect to an Exchange Server
for your Outlook email. Also, there is a reg hack that can be used to ensure
that your Recover Deleted Items is always on, but only try this if you are
familiar with working within the Registry (make sure you back it up first):

There is a key that can be entered into the registry -
HKLM\software\microsoft\exchange\options - DumpsterAlwaysOn = DWORD 1
