any way to avoid win2000 going on drive I:

200 gb is partitioned as 10gb for C: and the rest equally for D: and
E:.
Whenever I re-install win2K, I start by deleting the partition C: is
on and if I then want to re-install it wants to place itself on Drive
I: as there is a disk with 200GB partitioned by 50% and some drives
which are removeable like readers for camera's.
I can overcome that as I can delete everything on drive[0] and
re-partition and I then have C: again as the System Drive - but is
there a better or easier way - please

Yes, don't delete it. Format it only during text mode portion of setup.

Thank you - silly of me, now I have d: and e: to restore. Another 15
minutes down the drain :)

10gig is NOT enough space for system/boot. Plan 25gig. Remove all removable
devices like pen drives, cameras, etc until done with the install.

I just did this the other day. I continued the install until I formatted the
partition, then shut the machine down and started install again.

It has worked for years. Never let anything get on C: except maybe Twain and
other things which must be there. If they insist, I find another program. I
usually only use about 50-60% of the 10 GB which gives space for Defrag.

Don't know where you get that statement from. My 4-yr old 9.88GB
system/boot C: is 6.33GB free space. Same with my other machines.
