Any good free streaming media recorders?

I need some software that records streaming audio/video to my
hard-drive for the purpose of recording tutorials and lessons from
online.

A good one I have been using to record realaudio streams (but it does
most other formats as well) is Streambox VCR. lots of tutorials online.

Just search for it on google, look for the streambox VCR studio
package. (includes a small keygen type hack and streambox ripper to
turn real streams into mp3 after)

Think it used to be commercial then went a bit underground after the
realplayer people started getting legal on there asses.

I need something that doesn't have to be playing the media to write it
to disk. It needs to be able to see something being played through my
PC. A program called SoundTap is exactly what I need however its
payware.

Try NetXFer (http://www.xi-soft.com/)
I'm not sure whether it's free or not. When you start the program it
wants to to register, but if you click on 'Cancel', it continues anyway.
I think registration is optional. I think there's an advertisment bar,
that can only be removed when the product is registered.

It's 30-day trialware. (If you try to run it past 30 days, you
don't get past the "Register" screen without buying a license key.)

Excellent program, though.

Too lazy to check it out? This is alt.comp.freeware, in case you did
not know.

I know what group I'm in.
As I wrote before, registration is optional. You get some extra features
if you do. If you don't, you get a nagscreen before the program loads.
So what is it then? Freeware, Shareware (with no expiration), 'Nag'ware?

Well who's right, is it useless after the 30-day trial or just
annoying??? And don't say I'm too lazy to find out because I looked
into it and can't find any straight forward idea which of the two it
might be and I don't feel like using it for 30 days to only have it not
work anymore....

I have been using it for more than 30 days and it still works. There's
the nag screen, but that's it. On the homepage you can read:

| After registering, you can get all the advanced features, and remove
| the nag screen window. Your payment will make Net Transport much
| better, thank you!

They don't write anything about a trial period.

The download page currently says "90-days trial, please buy it" - that
seems fairly definitive. ;)

the same method I've previously described of raiding Opera's cache also
works for Pandora
Although, the selections from them are so good, I get into listening and
forget to grab the files! lol

Oh, never noticed that ...

However, version 1.87 was the last freeware version

Sure enough. :) I didn't come to on "NetXfer" when you posted (I'm more
used to seeing "Net Transport"). Correcting the ACF info to include both
names ->

Program: Net Transport (NetXfer)
Company: Xi Software
Author: Kevin Wang
W: LFW
Ware: (Freeware) LFW (v 1.87)
