any excel file opens with a blank Book1 file

any saved excel file that I open either from within an
attachment or from hard drive itself, excel opens a blank
Book1 file along with it. I've already ran detect &
repair, reregistered excel and double checked XLStart
directory which is empty. Any troubleshooting ideas would
be appreciated.
 
Just an idea. Depending on your upgrade path, there may be several XLStart
folders.

I'd use windows|Find to continue the search.
