Any alternative to Excelfix ?

I'm trying to open a file but received a error message telling me tha
the file format is invalid.

I've tried all the solutions recommended by MS, and none of the
worked. Also, I've tried the Demo version of Excelfix and it seeme
good, but to pay USD90 is out of my budget.

So do any kind souls out there have any other alternatives to help ou
poor students like myself ?

Try to open it in MS Word, if that works copy everything to Excel and ditch
the file,
there is no return if it was saved as a word file. The only thing you can do
is to
copy what's possible after opening it in Word.
