Antivirus choices

Good morning:

People with WinME (my op-system) seem to have trouble with Norton AV, and
the MVPs monitoring the ME newsgroups are generally down on Norton software
in general. My daughter's introductory McAffee AV deal on her new Dell has
just run out and she has asked me for advice, and I am wondering whether the
Norton problems, and general user attitudes, apply also to WinXP. How about
it?

Well I second their opinion and not only with ME but also XP, the new
version [2004] has created major headaches for me to the point I will
not recommend it to end users anymore. Plus Symantec's support is
poor - unless you are willing to pay for it, buy the product and then
get charged !.

I left the mainstream "bloatware" AV software market years ago for my
own PCs, having tried the major player's software and seen the havoc
created.
I can thoroughly recommend FPROT AV, small footprint, nothing gets past it
providing you keep it up to date which is simplicity itself. Plus they
put out a free for personal use DOS scanner which fits on two 1.44MB
diskettes, or you can burn it on a bootable CD.
Others will disagree heartily, but that's democracy.
