AntiSpy fails to identify or remove LOP. Fix coming?

Pak Hanafi

I'll spare you the gory details, but I had a bad case of
lop and AntiSpyware not only didn't remove it, it didn't
identify it in the first place.

My suspicion is that it came along with Messenger Plus. I
DID NOT install the additional package that comes with
Msgr Plus, but that didn't seem to prevent LOP from
installing. It remained even after I uninstalled Plus, as
well.

I finally got the various toolbars and popups to stop by
disabling odd stuff I discovered in Task Manager, but I
haven't been able to locate the sources in the registry.

The question here, however, is: Isn't this what
AntiSpyware is for!?

Hi

Yes it is but this is a ongoing battle between
advertisment/spyware and antispyware programs.
Never ending story as with virals.

- Send a spywarereport to MS about this, menu tools.

- Scan in safe mode perhaps can solve this, choose
deepscan, (press F8 during reboot/restart).

- Other methods/tools:

I know that the wonderful people at lop keep modifying it
to evade detection and removal, but this isn't even a
particularly new variation. I'm sure it had been on the
computer for a few months.

I am disappointed that it didn't show up at all. What was
most strange was that the scan suggested that there is a
possibility of Malware with Plus, but recommended action
was "IGNORE"! So even this older version of LOP eluded
it. Not very impressive.
I did scan in safe mode. Twice. And with deep scan.

AntiSpyware is friendly and easy enough to use, but if it
doesn't work.. who cares? When are they going to enable
the cookie scan? It would be much simpler if ONE app did
it all.. or at least MOST of the job effectively.

Well the first time round it seemed to get rid of lop.com
for me but the vial thing has come back and does not get
picked up at all now so i think they must have modified
there code.

Please submit a tools, suspected spyware report.

I know this doesn't sound too helpful, and I know this function doesn't work
on some machines, but this is the route to let them know a detection is
missing.

It's bad to miss new variants, and it is bad to drop and old one. I don't
know which this is, but those reports are how to hold the feet to the fire.
