Any idea how to disable the memory resident portion of AVG.?

Completely unnecessary. Use AVG AntiVirus FREE edition and be done with it.

Open the control center.
I use AVG free+eTrust with no problems at all.With both running the
resident.As a matter of fact I am running a test and have AntiVir
free version running also.
