Anti-virus on/off

Martins

I need to find an anti-virus able to be switched on and off. I mean,
in some occasions the anti-virus becomes too intrusive particularly in
some file intensive applications. I would like to get some anti-virus
able to be switched on/off so that the computer could be left alone in
some occasions.

Of course I understand the risk. At the moment I uninstall the anti-
virus and reinstall again ... quite a stupid operation.

Suggestions, please.

What AV are you using that doesn't already have this capability?

I haven't seen one yet that didn't.

Which AV are you using? All the AV's I've used allow for disabling
"auto-protect" (as Norton refers to it) or "real time monitoring" on a
temporary basis.

At the moment I am using AVG.

It has a "Resident Shield" Activate /DeActivate but if I install the
anti-virus the computer seems faster then using DeActivate.

I was about to try deactivating MsConfig anti-virus services.

The free Avira AntiVir has an option in its toolbar icon that let you just
rt clk the icon, uncheck the "AntiVir Guard enable" selecton and it is done.
To re-activate it, just do the same except put a check mark in front of
"AntiVir Guard enable".
It is super easy and quick.

AVG used to be a very good AV product, now it's merely average IMO.

Well, sure, the shield scans files on opening, e-mails, downloads,
etc. That takes time.

If you find a major slowdown, then you probably have a CPU running at
1 MHz or less. At 2 MHz or more, the slowdown is less noticeable.

You meant GHZ right? :)
