anti virus software gone missing

i used system restore on my computer i have windows xp
i have done this before and no problem , but now i have
lost my norton anti virus software .... where did it go

Unless you installed NAV *after* the date to which you restored your
computer, it should still be there after a System Restore. If it is
missing or broken, I'd suspect infection by one of the viruses that
damages antivirus programs. You might try scanning in Safe Mode with a
standalone av program like Stinger. Stinger looks for about 30 of the
most common viruses. Of course, it isn't a substitute for a
full-featured av program, but it is great for fixing things. Here's a

If you need more help, please repost and include some information about
your system, what the original problems were that caused you to do a
System Restore, and what you've already done to troubleshoot.

System restore is designed to restore the OS in case of fault. Yes
indeed, when you use it, it most often means your installed apps will
work once again as well, but that's not it's primary intention.
Re-Install any app that's not working. Be thankful that system restore
made your XP work again so you can at least twiddle with your apps anew.

Again, re: system restore, _system_ means Operating System.
