I know. Your message just reminded me of that old thread.
Undoubtedly there were others that went on even longer.

Your info is correct, the MS OEM site states so.

I disagree completely, he does help, but by none of his own thinking;
he is more a "help by giving links" master, than by his own worded
explanation to problem solving.

Exactually what is wrong with giving links to the information that solves a
posters problem that makes you completely disagree? Do you and did you on
your own find all the soliutions to all problems you have ever given help to
a poster? Does someone have to find the solution to a problem on their own
before they can post a reply to a problem? By your thinking, if a person
does not find a solution on their own, they should not share information
with someone if they did not originate the information?
Well , I completely disagree with you.

I just noticed this reply was not clearly posted and I thought it should be.

That though would have been supplied as a supplementary matter:
HP/Compaq notebooks (unless it was a decidedly old one) come now with
no CD at all and the restore material on a hidden HD partition. And
before that it was an 'image restore' rather than a OEM 'regular'
type CD. So
I think the vendor has provided a copy CD as a matter of good will -
and it seems to me a good practice

The Compaq notebook was a new system and did come with a XP CD that would
make a CLEAN install or a REPAIR install.

I didn't know Plato used to be on the web too 0_o

Imagine the ancient Greek society with internet - then we wouldn't have the
olympic sports, as the first dicipline was started by a messenger who ran
from one town to another (this became the 'marathon', if I recall it
correctly?).

Still, I seem to picture most folks I've first met online quite well, as I'm
rarely surprised. I thought almost all ppz who grew up with ("grew up on")
the web & who have a social life had this ability...

Only I sometimes tend to get the age wrong, as a lot of 'older' ppz really
act like 'kiddo's' . Imho.

Well, enough offtopic idle chat, working time!
cheers!

According to legend, the marathon derived from a Greek messenger who ran
from Marathon to Athens to deliver the outcome of an Athenian battle. He
uttered his one word message, "Victory", and died.

The first person I arranged to meet after talking online came to my
home. He wrote like a scholar with a 150 IQ. So I'm real nervous so he
drives up in this beat up Vega with the exhaust pipe dragging/sparking
and out walks "Charles Manson" but 6 foot 4, leather vest no shirt on
his hairy chest, cut off jeans shorts and army boots w/no socks, with
chains wrapped around various parts of his body and clothing.

This guy didn't get out much :)
