Another Unable to Send Mail Post

C

cee

I just started using Vista's Windows Mail, and like others I see her, am
unable to send e-mail. I am able to receive mail just fine.

I checked and re-checked and the server information I have entered is
correct. It worked fine under Outlook Express.
I am able to send mail via my ISP"s webmail server.
I am able to send mail to myself, but not to others at locations other than
my own ISP.

The error message I get is:

The message could not be sent. The authentication setting might not be
correct for your outgoing e-mail [SMTP] server.
Relaying denied. Proper authentication required.', Port: 25, Secure(SSL):
No, Server Error: 550, Error Number: 0x800CCC79

Any help would be appreciated.

That's not the complete error message. Please copy and paste it
without editing.

Make sure you have send authentication enabled.
Go to Tools, Accounts, select that account, Properties, Servers.
The box for "My server requires authentication" must be checked.

Thanks, Gary! Checking off the Server Authentication box worked. Keeping
my fingers crossed that the problem is resolved now.
The only parts of the error message that I didn't post were where the
person's e-mail address was given for privacy reasons. If the problem
recurs I will post the error message in entirety.

Thanks again!
Carol

You're very welcome. Good to hear that fixed the problem.
Actually, the missing piece of information I was looking for was
the server name.

My server is patriot.net.
The one to which I was sending was cox.net.

Hope this helps! And thanks again!

You're welcome. As it turned out, I didn't need the server
information in order to diagnose this particular problem, but
most of the time it is a critical piece of diagnostic information.
