Hello,
I have been reading the many threads & answers for sytem restore, but I
still cannot get mine to restore to an earlier date.

I have rebooted in safe mode and tried again to no avail.
All restore points are visible - along with their respective descriptions.

I am using Windows XP home edition SP2 (OEM version - so I have no disc to
work from), with Kaspersky Internet Security Suite V6.0 installed.

I have recently added Microsoft Office 2007 Enterprise Edition and have also
noticed that Windows Help & Support Centre will no longer allow me to connect
to the Internet via its links - it tells me that I am not connected to the
Internet when, in fact, I am!!??

Help please
Thanks

Description:
A restoration to "Software Distribution Service 2.0" restore point failed.
No changes have been made to the system.

For more information, see Help and Support Center at

The above is what I see in event viewer (thanks bert) - the link shown is
showing me the page cannot be reached as I "am not conected to the
internet"....I AM!

While I can't answer your question, I can give you a little food for thought.
Please consider that something - possibly the Help and Support Web Site -
needs to be added to Trusted zone in Kaspersky Internet Security Suite. I
had a similar problem with securing updates from Webroot for Spy Sweeper.
After making two entries in Trusted zone of Kaspersky Anti-Virus 6.0, I can
now get my updates; however, I still sometimes get notice that I first need
to connect to the Internet, when I am actually connected. Clicking "Yes"
three times makes the notice go away, and I get connected to the update web
site. I hope this suggestion is of some help to you. Try Googling your
problem. That's how I came across several threads that gave me some idea of
what to do.

Hi,

If System Restore fails in Safe Mode, then there's a good change one of the
restore points is corrupt. unfortunately all restore points will have to be
deleted to repair the corruption.

How to Disable and Enable System Restore and delete all existing restore points:
http://bertk.mvps.org/html/disablesr.html

If you were able to restore the system, you would have wanted to uninstall
any applications installed after the restore point being used.

Thanks for advice Angie,
That was one of the first areas I checked - everything fine on that score.

Am more inclined to follow Bert's advice and delete old restore points to
rid any corrupt points.

Thanks again

Thankyou Very Much for your advice - "stop/start" restore worked a treat,
although it's a shame I no longer have access to the Factory settings on my
laptop should the worst happen!!.

To compensate for my internet connection anomally, I have created a "cheat"
by bookmarking the "Events & Error Message Centre basic search" page. I can
now view any advice I may need from my "Event Log" by manually inputting the
error codes to search.

Thanks again, very grateful
