Another question on page numbers...

Well......

I'm designing what seems to be a complex document... The front matter
has already been separated and numbered with roman numerals, but the
main document in another story.

The main document has numerous chapters that, thanks to Suzanne's
suggestion, have been section-split as well so that the headers can
reflect the chapter number and page number from WITHIN the chapter.
Example: There are 3 pages in chapter 21 and 1 in chapter 22, so the
headers say 21-1, 21-2, 21-3, 22-1, 23-1... etc.

Herein lies the rub - Starting at the first chapter of the main
document, I need page numbers in the footer that run unmolested through
the remainder of the document. Now it seems whenever I update my page
number in the footer (due to the Section Breaks) it affects the page
number from the reference in the header.

Aside from creating half a million individual footers and numbering
them manually, I'm not sure what to do - worst part is that this
document will be amended from time to time (several times per year) and
I would like it to be as painless as possible, lest the duty fall on
somebody else.

Any leads would be appreciated.

Cheers,
Craig
