Another Q--Maybe I've already got USB 2.0???

OK Guys,. I got into the Bios.

============================================================
BIOS & MY CHANGS:
One selection was whether to allow Legacy USB 1.1 to be enabled.
I left it enabled.
Another selection was whether to allow Enhanced USB. I changed
it to ENHANCED.
Another selection was for USB 1.1 -- its options were None, 1, 2,
or 3 controllers. It was set at three and I left it there.

I rebooted. All USB devices are working.

============================================================
I checked Device Manager. It says:

UNIVERSAL SERIAL BUS CONTROLLERS
Generic USB Hub
Intel 82801DB/DBM USB 2.0 Enhanced Host Controller - 24CD
Intel 82801DB/DBM USB Universal Host Controller - 24C2
Intel 82801DB/DBM USB Universal Host Controller - 24C4
Intel 82801DB/DBM USB Universal Host Controller - 24C7
USB Root Hub
USB Root Hub
============================================================

Here are my QUESTIONS:
1. Why do I have TWO "USB Root Hub? ________
2. How many of my USB ports are set to USB 2.0?
3. What do 24CD, 24C2, 24C4 and 24C7 mean?
4. I have SIX USB ports on the ATX case. Four are in the back
-- same as in the mobo manual and the manual you had me download. the
other TWO are on the right-side of the computere case. WHICH ports
are showing up in Device Manager?
5. Is there a way to plug in a USB "tester" into each port and
check the speed, and find out that way if they are set to USB 1.1 or
to USB 2.0?
7. If I DISABLE Legacy Support for USB 1.1, will my old USB
devices still work?
8. Should I set the USB 1.1 settings to NONE?

============================================================
AFTERTHOUGHTS:
9. Do I still have to install a separate USB 2.0 card, as
earlier recommended?
10. Do I still have to install XP Home SP 2 in order to get USB
2.0 drivers, as earlier suggested?

Thanks so much for your patience. It's frustrating for me, but
bit by bit I learn a little more, and get my computer to do what I
need.

I answered already in the previous posts..

1. Yes
2. You're just toggling options. You really can't break it. There's no way
to 'backup' your existing options.

Hi Jason,
Sorry, but that advice was incorrect. SP2 has nothing to do with
my USB ports. It was all in the BIOS.
Plus, you told me to download the manual, after I told you I
already had the manual. Plus the manual you told me to download was
for a different motherboard. Plus I'm on dialup and it took 20
minutes to get the wrong manual.
Please excuse my frustration.

Hi Jason,
This is at least two times you told me to get my USB 2.0 working
I needed to DL SP2. But the solution was to change the BIOS. Has
nothing to do with SP2. Why do you keep suggesting I get SP2? Are
you being paid to say that?

Hi Jason,
Sorry, but the instructions you gave me come from a manual for a
different motherboard. I don't think I should update a bios with a
beta made for a different motherboard version, should I?

Please don't suggest I apply SP2 unless that is truly the answer
to the questions I pose.

No, I never gave yu that model. I already checked the manual. What's
the point of telling me to check my user's manual, when I already
have? And "more or less similar" isn't much help to someone who
doesn't work as an IT Tech. If I had found the answers, I wouldn't
have bothered to ask the question here.

Jason!
HOW MANY TIMES are you going to tell me to install SP2 in order
to get my USB 2.0 working? I don't need no friggin SP2 for that.
It's all in the BIOS, and the drivers are part of SP1, which I already
told you I have.

Geez. Do you just make this stuff up?

SP2 has updated USB 2.0 drivers. You should keep your OS patched to latest ones to help with
Security issues. If you are on dialup I think you can get SP2 for free from Microsoft on CD with a
small shipping cost.

Hello again Dear David,
Yes, thank you! I do have the SP2 disk, but have not installed
it yet. It seems each time I try to "improve" my computer, I run into
some little thing that takes me days to figure out. So I wait until
my vacations to upgrade the computer.
I'm careful to read the KB articles and watch the newsgroup
postings, too, just in case there might be a troublesome patch
released. My SP1 is pretty well up to date on patches.
Once I get my new monitor and all the USB stuff squared away,
I'll give XP2 a try.

In my first questions on how to change my USB 1.1 ports to 2.0,
Jason Tsang said "Install SP2". Well, that wouldn't have helped,
since I already had the USB2.0 drivers installed from SP1. I just
needed help to figure out how to get them enabled.

You'd get a better chance at help if you'd stick to one thread instead of
starting a new one each time.

Jason,

The point is: When someone asks a question, the answer should
relate to the question, and should be correct. It seems that you are
answering based on memory, without checking.
SP2 is irrelevant to my question.
I suggest you slow down a bit, read the whole message, answer the
questions inline (to help keep you focused), and double-check your
advice; don't rely just on your memory.
