Another perfect system KILLED by SP2...

SP2 sucks.

One last try before I reformat my c:\

So here's the skinny: system was running perfect.. no problems.. no
viruses.. no hardware conflict.. so spyware blah blah blah blah

Tried installing SP2 and my HD ends up corrupted. I've tried several of the
"knowledge base" (hahaha right) articles, as well as several attempts at
repair.

The first few times, the repair worked.. My comp would work fine for 10 mins
then blue screen.

Some of the messages I've got are:
PFN LIST CORRUPT
CORRUPT OR MISSING NTFS.SYS
CORRUPT OR MISSING WIN32K.SYS
IRQ whatever whatever

Now, I can't even repair. During setup, all I get is a blue screen saying:
"A device driver attemping to corrupt the system has been caught"

This makes no sense whatsoever considering nothing new has been added, and
it's a repair install with minimal drivers anyway.

If you have any ideas, let 'em fly.

I've installed a second copy of XP on another HD in preparation to format my
c:\ , and I'm not very happy about it.

(RANT: Honestly, releasing SP2 was RIDICULOUS. Every single person I've
talked to has had problems with it, and to see people losing their data only
proves my point. F U SP2 )

Had NO problems with SP2. Worked like a charm. Very happy with it.

I streamed SP2 to a XP Pro CD. Works like a champ! Downloaded SP2 on main
computer. No problems. Seems to me that "Off the self computers" Don't
respond well to changes. A custom built is much better. IMHO Not that I know
what you have. I would look for a program off the net to make a XP SP2 CD if
your gonna format any way.

Custom built system here...

The sad thing is that since I live in Seattle I know a ton of people who
work for Microsoft. When a bug is found, do they fix it? No. They leave it
in a work around it. No wonder the software has so many problems.... What
sucks is that half of the usefull commands that used to be in DOS are now
gone- making system modifications from the command line a pain in the butt.

Really? How many is that?
If it is many, you should be looking at what software or hardware or
whatever else you have in common.
Often when a statement such as this is made, it is a group of friends with a
file sharing program as well as other "freebies" involved.

Did you verify each piece of software, hardware (including drivers) is
compatible with SP-2?
Compatible with Windows XP is not enough.

I've installed it many times. On Vanilla, and over SP1. It's worked
every time.

Cheers,
