Another Micosoft update - and now mouse doesn't work until 2nd reboot

This is a strange one. Recently I start my PC and my mouse pointer no longr
works... at least until I reboot the machine.
Any ideas ?
 
Turn OFF Microsoft Updates.
There have been several that have caused problems this year.

Funny! Apart from the perennial trouble with my external hard
disc, I have had *no* noticeable problems with updates to
Windows or Office this year and I have applied them *all*.
