Another issue: pics saved as bmp rather than jpg

I know that there is some bug that messes up how you want to save pics with
XP, rather than a default jpg, the only thing suggested (when I right click
an image, click save image as) is bmp. I've tried clearing the temp folder,
then doing the tools/internet options/settings/view objects and deleting
anything marked other than 'installed' (corrupt,...), but I have to do this
everytime I want to save a pic. Once I clear everything (as above), it lets
me save as a jpg as the default for about an hour, then it's back to the bmp
default, and no other options are in the dropdown box.

Ideas?

Thanks, I've tried all of that. It keeps happening. It is beyond
aggravating.

Any other tips/tricks/downloads?
