another file sharing issue

i got 2 computers - one on XP, one on 2K. I personnally use only the 2K
except for sharing files on the xp machine.

this works: i can the the xp pc to see files on the 2K pc. When i click on
the my xp desktop shortcut to the 2k, i'm prompted by xp to enter userid &
password for the 2K pc. It's annoying to have to enter uid & pwd, but it
works.

I can't do the reverse??? the 2K just complains that "access is denied".
E.g.: using the command prompt, command "net view \\xppc" returns system
error 5 has occured, access is denied. With a shortcut on the desktop to
\\xppc, the resulting error is "\\xppc is not accessible. There are
currently no longon servers available to service the logon request".

I reinstalled "Client for MS Networking" and "File/printer sharign" on XP,
but that didnt' help...

Thanks for pointers ;-)

Use lusrmgr.msc to add a user account to the XP computer that is the same as the
logon/password you use to logon to the W2K computer. Also the built in ICF firewall
in XP will block access to shares. If you are using XP Home you must run the stupid
network wizard to let the computer share files. I think it will pop up automatically
if you try to share a file on a XP Home computer. --- Steve
