Another Cross-Referencing question

On Word 2002, I used "Insert Caption" and created a new label I called
Appendix B. After inserting, I then changed the style to a custom style I
wanted to use. That style includes paragraph level 2. All was well and
working as I wanted it to at first, but several days later when I went to
insert another cross-reference my new label had vanished from the list and I
am having to re-create the whole thing. How do I get it to stay? I have never
had problems before with changing the style of a caption after inserting it,
but this is the first time I have put them in frames. They are in frames so
that I can place them sideways at the end of 11 X 17 pages.

I am also having another problem - I cannot get the first frame (with a
paragraph level 2 style) to line up under the section heading in the
docuement map - it wants to go above it. Since I am the only one likely to
ever see this I can live with it, but it bugs me that I can't get it to work
right. It does not seem to matter where the insertion point is, and it should
matter, shouldn't it?

But you never got an answer to your first question, did you?

Have you perhaps installed Acrobat 7 recently? That *might* be preventing
the caption label from being remembered.

I don't see why you don't just modify the Caption style instead of using a
different style, though. Seems that would be a lot simpler all around.

You know, I did end up modifying the caption style but it still did not stay.
I do have Acrobat 7 - maybe I should check with our IS folks and see if there
is an earlier Acrobat available that I can use.

Okay, that definitely sounds like Acrobat 7 messing you up. You don't
necessarily need to get an earlier Acrobat. See the explanation and various

You can just force Normal.dot to save your customizations.
