Annoyances in Internet Explorer v6

Hello,

I am running Windows XP and using Internet Explorer v6 that came with this
operating system. Since a couple of days, only when I boot the computer and
use Internet Explorer for the first time, I get new sites added to my
favorites and a new start page. If I only shut down Internet Explorer and
open it again, everything is OK. But if I shut down IE and reboot the
computer, then I get those sites added to my favorites and a new start page.

Could someone tell me how to fix that problem and configure Windows XP or IE
so that this situation is impossible in the future.
