ANNOUNCE! FF autoupdate now available

Don't take this personally, BUT

It is wrong. I am merly stating the LAW, just I could state the law of
gravity.

Yes, but we can verify the law of gravity, whereas the "law of polar
opposites" is just hippie-talk.
Also I am going further explaining that if you focus on the positive aspects
of things, you will have better results.

Like breaking the speed limit to get to work, for example? Because hey,
the faster I go, the quicker I'll get there. Makes a man wonder why we
ever bothered with speed limits in the first place.

Yea but...

The majority of the first 100 hits (sorry, got bored) have to do with
song lyrics and astrology. Bottom line is that there is no "Law of
Polar Opposites," in the realm of natural sciences at least.

Perhaps the OP had meant to cite some other law...

Or if you read the release notes, or if you looked at the program's
options.

I'm just thankful it only took nine posts to straighten things out. I
don't know what I'm going to do with the rest of my day. ;)

Indeed! "law of polar opposites" (using quotes) returns 3 hits, whereas
"law of gravity" returns 527,000 - suggesting that the "law of polar
opposites" has yet to gain much acceptance.

Besides, John Jay, just making stuff up and putting the word "law" in
front of it doesn't make it a law. I could make up a "law of
conservation of shoes", which states that for every shoe that is
destroyed, another one is manufactured ... but I aint gonna be fooling
anyone.

Sure it does. That's the well-known Law of "Law" Laws. As an
example of it in action, I just made that up, but it immediately
applies and makes itself a law. Posting it to Usenet makes it even
more law-ish.

Q;

Mind if I cite your post in future endeavors? (They'll sound more law-ish.)

The laws that govern the universe preexisted before man.

It is irrelevant of the number of people who know or are aware of the law.

It works all around us in a precise manner whether you know it or not.

And no I am not making it up. You will hear at some point soon about this..

and remember that you heard it from me first. :)

You can also look into yin yang.. perhaps you migh find more info on that...

So what's the received wisdom here - is John Jay a troll, or not? I've
looked through some of his past posts, and they seem mostly sensible;
but this "law of polar opposites" is doing my head in.

Some people think he's kenny, who was definitely trollish.
Maybe he has multiple personalities.

its ok Mark.. you don't have to accept it.....

It has not been scientifically proved yet. But just don't be too ridged...

science has a long way until it understands everything in the universe.

He's definitely kenny. He'll tell you that himself, I think.
Maybe he has multiple personalities.

He's been doing better for a while now. He's quit crossposting AFAICT,
and his inflammatory posts aren't as frequent as they were. The "law
of polar opposites" is more kooky than trollish, IMO.

To be fair to the guy, I think he started out by saying that he liked
the Firefox autoupdate feature, or something. Not in itself a
contentious statement, although one which the majority of respondants
seem to disagree with (including me).

But responses such as laws of nature exist whether or not Man knows
about them just make me want to poke him in the eye. And don't even get
me started on Maharaj, who I see from my filter log is still pumping it
out as strong as ever. I'm beginning to think that the guy is genuinely
mentally disturbed.

I guess I just have a low threshold of tolerance for idiots.

The upside, though, is that I've gained a lot of practical experience
in filtering techniques, like blocking any message that crossposts to
soc.culture* groups, any message crossposted to 3 or more groups
(using nfilter / news proxy), and in my newsreader (OT see header) to
set subject line filters and expire them in (nn) days.

That, and about a half dozen or so entries in my "twit" file make
reading ACF a much more pleasant experience. <grin>

It was because of Dr. Raj that I asked about Thunderbird's filtering -
and thereby got it working. So I guess I should say "A hearty thank you
Dr. Maharaj. Wanker"

J

John Jay Smith

Now that is "looking on the bright side"...

as you can see there is a polar opposite aspect of the negative thing
maharaj is doing. Because of him you learned something more...and that is
good.

Its the "law of polar opposites" at work.. I could expand and explain how
this is apparent in everything, from electricity to quantum mechanics &
subatomic particles, to galaxies, to the big bang, to human relations, to
biology, to health....

Enough said... since no one really cares I better stop

Equal? I don't think so. The cloud may have a silver lining, but it can
get pretty thin sometimes.

exactly equal.. but its equality is not always apparent...

it may show its true nature over a long period of time...
