can you explain?

Think "Microsoft"
Think "Auto Update"
Think "Windows Genuine Advantage" spyware.

Enough said.

For every positive thing there is an equal negative aspect.
And for ever negative thing there is an equal positive aspect.
This is called the law of polar opposites.
All those things may you listed have some negative aspect perhaps,
but they also have positive aspects. Which aspects do you prefer to see and
dwell upon?

Those which have a realistic prospect of realisation, whether or not I
regard such realisation as desirable. Forewarned is forearmed.
You sound like a Microsoft apologist.

it is not forced.. ok wrong term.. its not autoupdate..

Its update enabled from within the update command of the firefox help menu

You sound like a Microsoft apologist.

Please explain how you concluded this?

It is wrong. I am merly stating the LAW, just I could state the law of
gravity.
Also I am going further explaining that if you focus on the positive aspects
of things, you will have better results.

FF update has nothing to do with microsoft in the first place...
FF does not force you to update, and neither does microsoft.

I will not enter into further debate with a top-poster.

Sure it's autoupdate. Firefox automatically checks for, downloads,
and installs updates. All three things can be changed in the
options dialog, so it's not forced, but by default Firefox
autoupdates itself.

J

John Jay Smith

No it doesnt..
it pops up a window telling you that it has found an update and if you want
to install it.

This is not autoupdate..

autoupdate means it downloads the update and installs it without asking.

No it doesnt..

When someone corrects misinformation you have posted, please check
before reposting the bad info. This one's particularly easy to check.

Create a new profile, which will have the default settings. Look
at Tools » Options » Advanced » Update. Note that "ask me what I want
to do" is *not* turned on. Note that "automatically download and
install the update" *is* turned on.

J

John Jay Smith

Thats how my CURRENT profile is....

but I never see it doing anything... I have to manually go to the
help>update
and then it downloads and installs...

anyway.. I dont use FF as my main browser...

Autoupdates are evil, even from Firefox.

Just installed version 1.0.7 on a seperate virtual machine.. it seems that
the autoupdate is a feature of 1.5.0.x and up

You don't have to. You could wait a while and Firefox would
automatically update itself.

The autoupdate feature doesn't depend on whether you use it more than
other browsers.

This is called the law of polar opposites.

Please provide proof.

I Googled for "law of polar opposites", and came up with 3 results; 2 of
which are on the same site. So, not exactly a universally-acknowledged
"law", then.

Results 1 - 10 of about 281,000 for law polar opposites. (0.26 seconds)

Of course; this is covered in the release notes as well.
