Amt of disk space for temp internet files keeps being reset too small. I
continue to go into "settings" and re-set the amount of disk space to be
larger, but when I re-open I.E., the setting is re-set to a low disk space
size so I can't download some files. Any idea on why the "Amount of Disk
Space to Use" continues to be re-set without my involvement?

What do you consider low?
IE version?
Windows version?

I have my TIF set to 50 MB and I can still download 3 GB files.

IE 6.0
600 MB
Windows XP Home Edition

The problem seems to be that the file size is being continually re-set each
time I close IE so I am continually forced to increase it each time I
re-start IE so as to allow me to download other files. Don't know why it's
being re-set automatically lower despite the fact that I increase its size
continually.

In the opinion of most MVPs, TIF should be set for 50 MB, otherwise it slows
down IE. I have never had a problem downloading large files with it set
like that. It was set like that when I downloaded the Vista ISO which is
over 3 GB.

I don't have any problems in downloading files when I re-set it, but the
problem is that it is continually being re-set lower by some function within
IE. The problem is NOT the file size -- the problem is that it is being
re-set each time I close IE and re-start. Do you know why?

Thanks -- download CCleaner (which worked successfully) but the problem
persists. The max file size keeps being reduced when I re-open explorer.

Sorry that your problem persists. Try clearing your History and Cookies
folders as well. This issue has been around with IE for awhile - see:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/195163/en-us - but this does not apply to
XP.
BTW, after clearing your TIF w/ CCleaner, did you reboot? The "new" TIF
folder isn't used until after a restart. Hesitant to previously suggest the
deletion of your cookies and history folders as you may have cookies that
contain settings for custom web page layouts or passwords.

Oh, forgot to add this setting is in the registry here:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet
Settings\Cache\Content

Maybe your registry isn't getting written to with the new setting via IE.

Still no solution. I do think, however, that the problem may be related to a
recent installation of Google Accelerator as when I de-activate the
accelerator, the automatic re-setting seems to stop. I've sent them a note
to ask this question.

Many thanks for your assistance.

You're welcome, and thank YOU for the feedback re Google Accelerator. Post
back here if you find out anything more.
