AMD or INTEL?

I'm looking into getting a new system, and was wondering how AMD stacks up
with Intel these days.My only experience with AMD was a 550 K6,which frankly
had a lot more problems than the Intel models I've owned.I'm looking for a
system primarily for gaming and internet use, something that won't need
upgrading or replacement in just a couple years. Are the new 64 processors
worth looking into?Which AMD models compare in power and speed with
something like a Pentium 4 3.2 with HT?Budget is a consideration,I'm
figuring about $1400.00,and I know AMD is cheaper, but will it be reliable?

Go here for "Black Viper's" opinion..

These days?
That supposes there was ever a difference :/

Hmmm :/

Doesn't exist :)
Are the new 64 processors
worth looking into? Yes.

System reliability is directly proportional to the user.
HTH :)

Well, that in itself is quite telling. He used to be a rabid anti-AMD guy.

" Even though my harsh "I do not like AMD" statement is no longer
valid....."

Yeah, but, consider that his "I don't like AMD" isn't based on
having any AMD systems since a K6-2, LOL. Certainly there were a
lot of inexperienced users buying the cheapest thing they could
find, which could prove problematic regardless of which CPU is
installed. I do tend to agree that early Athlon chipsets were
poor, but around KT266A they became good enough that it was a
fair compromise for the cost savings, and later chipsets the
best solution for anyone not wanting to buy new software.

So seldom is this point emphasized, that when we see benchmarks
of P4 vs AMD, we see a lot of new/newer software being used which
puts the P4 in the most favorable light possible. I can't
speak for all users but I don't like the trend of implying
performance gains but a failure of including the cost of this
software when factoring total cost to achieve a gain, if any.

Oh, btw, I located that P60, accidentally sent two of them to a
friend instead of one. Someday he'll return it and then it's
yours.

Man, that would be awesome, thanks Dave.
