I've been using the freeware version of avafind for several years. It
uses minimal memory and stays resident. I am curious as to whether
there is other software out there with features similar to the
nonfreeware version of this.

It would help me to help you if you gave some sort of clue as to hat
AVAFIND does.

This is the simplest explanation although it does substantially more.
I'd like something that is similar but that will open applications once
found by clicking on them. This is only available in the pay version of
avafind. What's different about it from other search programs I've seen
is that it is simple to use and uses little memory.
Search

* Instantly find any file or folder on your computer by name.
* Browse Music and Videos eliminates the need for digging through
media folders one by one.
* My Picks shows files recently opened using Ava Find. You can pin
frequently used items to the top of the list.

I use ESP! (http://www.espsw.com/) which, like AVAFind in its full
version, is not freeware, although it's only $10 USD and excellent. I
thought it was freeware but it seems to be trialware, i.e., you can
use it without naggs indefinitely without registration. I registered.

Very nice utility. It's what I've been using of late. Once the database
is updated it finds all files in a instant.

Yup, highly underrated app, IMO.
