alright - who can help me reload winXP on here??

i get TOO MANY BSODS!!!!

And it is IMPERATIVE that they stop. This computer is my
studio computer, and I cannot have the computer crash
during a recording session. I also edit video on it.

I'm taking the initiative to reload xp home. I assume
this will help because of the countless errors in the
event log. Winmgt has TONS of errors, many which appear
to be causing the BSOD's. Also, some other random things,
like my internet firewall thing that XP usually has turned
on by default - that says "please reload windows this
feature is corrupt" or something like that.

I have a feeling I MAY have some faulty memory as well,
but I think if I could fix the system first, then I could
trouble shoot that.

So how do I got about doing this?? is there ANY CHANCE
that I will lose files on my computer? I have over 60 gig
of files that I MUST keep. I ONLY want to reload system
files, etc. and I want to keep all installed programs
(aka, i dont want to reinstall anything).

Thanks whoever can help me. BTW - I got WIN XP HOME, SP1
and numerous random "fixes" installed. I got the HOME
reinstall CD too.

If the errors are hardware related, reinstalling the OS will achieve
precisely nothing, other than to waste a few hours of your time.

But I cannot tell you what they pertain to, as you don't provide any salient
information.

scott -
You aren't going to get much help by yelling.
Sounds like you have a big mess, and unless you are
willing to lose your files, I'd take your machine
to a professional.

You have 60Gb of files you must keep - and you have no backup?

Go out and buy an external hard drive *immediately.* Move the files there.
Wipe the internal hard drives clean and start over.

And DO REGULAR BACKUPS! Internal DVD burners are under $100. While you'd use
about 15 blank DVDs at this point, you'd have a backup of your data....

Windows XP is the most stable version of Windows ever. If you are
getting frequent crashes, it's highly likely that you have a
hardware problem or a driver problem, not a Windows one. Bad RAM,
bad or inadequate power supply, or video drivers are the usual
culprits. It could also be unstable wall power supplied to the
computer.

I'm taking the initiative to reload xp home. I assume
this will help because of the countless errors in the

It's highly unlikely to help. Since the problem is most likely
hardware, reloading software won't fix it.

If you have faulty RAM, that's the problem. That's what should be
fixed first. There may be nothing in the operating system to fix.

So how do I got about doing this?? is there ANY CHANCE
that I will lose files on my computer? I have over 60 gig
of files that I MUST keep. I ONLY want to reload system

Of course there's a chance that you will lose your files. Any
time you take steps like what you contemplate, there's such a
risk. In fact there's such a risk even if you do nothing. If you
use your computer professionally and have "over 60 gig of files
that [you] MUST keep" and have no backup, you are always in an
extremely precarious position, whether or not you get BSODs.
