Alphabetize All Programs in Start Menu

In my start menu under All Programs, none of the programs are alphabetized.
They just appear in the order in which they were installed. In Windows 2000
there is a re-sort option under taskbar, however I can't find one for XP.
How do I re-sort these programs?

Open the Start Menu\All Programs | Right click | Sort By Name

If your right click menu is missing.....

XP Start Menu >>
Right click the Start button | Properties |
Start Menu tab | Customize button | Advanced tab |
Scroll down to and Check: Enable dragging and dropping |
OK | OK

Classic Start Menu >>
Right click the Start button | Properties |
Start Menu tab | Customize button |
Scroll down to and Check: Enable dragging and dropping |
OK | OK

[[Specifies whether you can drag items to the Start
menu.]] Also disables right click menu if UNChecked.

You can use the Group Policy editor (Gpedit.msc) under the following
location to configure Start menu features:
User Configuration \ Administrative Templates \ Start Menu and Taskbar

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\
Policies\Explorer
The registry entries are DWORD values. A value of 1 is enabled, and a value
of 0 is disabled.

Policy: Disable drag-and-drop menus on the Start Menu
Description: Prevents users from modifying the Start menu by dragging and
dropping items. Other methods of customizing the Start menu are still
enabled.
Registry Value: "NoChangeStartMenu"

To cut the clutter even further, you could right click
Start/explore/c/documents & settings/all users/start menu/programs and open
new folders into which you could drag like items.
For example, create an Internet folder and drag IE, Outlook, Messenger etc
into that folder. Create an MS Office folder and drag Word, Excel etc into
that folder. Create a Photos folder and drag all photo stuff in there.
Then when you click on Start/All Programs, you will not only see your list
in alphabetical order but shortened as well. You will see the new folders
for Internet, MS Office, Photos etc.
You might even right click the taskbar/properties/start
menu/customize/advanced/and change to "Display as a menu" as well as
enabling most of the boxes listed.
Your start menu will be much easier to navigate and you will be able to get
it down to a handful of items.

Exactly the same way for all earlier version of Windows, back to Win98,
at least: right-click on the open menu and select "Sort by Name."

Is there any reason why you're replying to a thread that the last post,
before yours, was on 5 December 2004?
