Allow scripts or programs to be run.

I'm looking for a STEP-BY-STEP on how to enable server functionality on my PC
so I can best review the appearance of a MS Access enabled FP2003 web without
having to publish to a server site. I have:
- FP2003
- WinXP, SP2
- IIS intalled (no FP Extensions) Have visited "Computer Management," but am
unsure what I'm looking at.
- FPSE 2003 intalled, though don't know how to "start, activate, or enable,"
if required.
- Also have MSSQLServer

Right clicking a FP directory folder and selecting Properties displays the
selection box for "Allow scripts or programs to be run," but it's grayed-out
and I can't see to get it to un-gray. (It's my understanding that's the
feature I need to select in order to get best page previews.)

Variouse FP book authors, etc, seem to skirt this configuration task,
roughly claiming it's off-topic or too complex. It's my opinion that us
folks trying to dive deep into FP are being abandond by those that take that
position.

Thank you very much for your help!

Not sure exactly what you're trying to do??
Do you mean you want to preview / work with asp and an access database in IIS??

Sorry for confusion. I want to "Preview" as seen in the FP "Preview view"
function. It's my understanding that when developing a site that uses data
(from a dbase, etc) the FP Preview view is subject to inaccuracies. Most
accurate previews are only achieved after publishing to ISP, or when working
on a server enabled PC.

It's my further understanding that by finally selecting the "Allow scripts
or programs to be run" selection box will enable use of fields and data from
external sources such as a dbase.

Thus, for reasons of being able to utilize external data, and for achieving
the most accurate previews, I'm trying to select the "Allow scripts" box.
But, as I say, I can't get it to "un-gray" and become available to be
selected. So, I'm looking for a step-by-step guide on what it takes to make
the option "un-gray."

Thx, RSS

You need to preview in the browser.
For asp and a database to work properly it needs to be served froma server.

Preview in Broswer should do exactly what you want.

Now, if you're getting error pages when you preview in the browser, there's
another issue.

Or if you're accessing another database, you need to add and verify the
other database in Site Settings > Database.

Thanks, 95isalive. After re-reading my FP 2003 Missing Manual, I see that I
really need the IIS in order to support FP's ability to Create a DBase. I
THINK I'm still in need of insights on how to "un-grey" the Properties
selection box that Allows scripts or programs to be run. Any suggestions?
Thanks again!
