All Users Desktop Icons keep disappearing

I have 3 Windows 2000 advanced server terminal servers.
I am having a problem with one server. From one day to
the next the icons on the TS users desktops are
different. Not all users, just some. I put the icons in
the C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Desktop folder.
The main icons that disappear are Word and Excel. I try
putting them back, and they disappear again. I have
found no errors in event viewer. Any thoughts

Thanks

Happy Halloween to you too!

I would try throwing some NTFS permissions on those files
as well as auditing them to see what is going on and who
is trying to delete them. It may be possible that your
group policies are deleting those shortcuts.

I did a couple of things when I had this problem:

1. Make sure the server in question wasn't accidentally left in
install mode.
2. Double check that the "all users" profile is identical on each of
the machines.
3. Reboot the machine in question if it hasn't rebooted in a while.
4. Double check that everyone is using roaming profiles and not
local. (I had a screwy situation where a user was roaming on three
servers and local on the fourth... caused all sorts of confusion until
I caught it).
5. Disable right clicking in group policy. Cuts back on the number
of accidental file deletions big time, and if they are determined
enough, they can work around it, but at least you know its
intentional.
