all programs shutting down

I am what you might call "keyboard kenny" I accomplish most functions
without a mouse. I usually navigate between programs by simultaneously
pressing alt+tab. I first noticed this problem using the alt+tab function.
Instead of a dialogue box popping up I would automatically go to the next
program in line. I would solve that problem by closing one of the programs
then I could navigate in the alt+tab dialogue box just fine.
Now the problem has escalated in that the system will freeze for a split
second and all of the programs will close and I will be at my desktop.
I am running XP Home Edition, Version 2002, SP 1
on a
HP Pavillion AMD Athlon XP 2400+
2.00 GHz
512 MB of RAM

Any advise?\

The first problem is that you are running XP Home.
Next try using the mouse.
Obviously you have a program that does not play well with
other programs.
