Mario Barozzi

After having installed Adobe Photoshop 7.0 and
simultaneously unistalled 6.0 All Programs menu does not
display the content of C:\Documents and Settings\My
Documents\MB\Start Menu\Programs but the content of
C:\Documents and Settings\My Documents\MB
How can I set All Programs menu pointing the right

Many thanks falks for your help (if any!)

Sounds like you've been dragging folders about. Type in Start Run
regedit

Navigate to these four locations

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Shell Folders

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\User Shell Folders

And tell me the value of Common Programs and Common Start Menu for both.

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Shell Folders

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\UserShell Folders

and tell me what Start Menu and Programs says for both.

These are the location of the four folders whose contents make up All Programs.

Dear David, apart from a little difference I can live with
(the All Programs menu displays in the upper side among
others also the Start Menu of All Users) now it works. I
am very grateful for your support. I owe you one. Ciao

There is an error in the entry for Programs under
HKEY_CURRENT_USERS\User Shell Folder
It is set to %userprofile%\programs but should be (unless you moved the folder)
%userprofile%\start menu\programs
[You can enter an absolute path like
C:\Documents and Settings\MB\Start Menu\Programs]

Windows uses only the user shell folder entries. The
shell folder entries are for compatability with older
programs that expect to find the info there. Absolute
paths must be used for shell folder entries.

done the changes you suggested now the All Programs menu

Dear David, last question. I uninstalled Norton Antivirus
Corporate Edition o install Norton Systemworks 2003 Pro.
While installing the latter it tells me to uninstall
Norton Antivirus Corporate Edition, that I already did.
Since I do not have any other Symantec application
installed is it enough to delete from
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Symantec all the entries ?

It's certainly safe, though it may not help.

I appoòogize to both Mr.Barozzi and Mr.Candy for replying to this post, but
I've missed the Mr.Candy's one

HKEY_CURRENT_USERS\User Shell Folder

Mr.Candy, are you sure there shold be 'HKEY_CURRENT_USERS\User Shell
Folder'. I guess it should, but, I DON'T HAVE that key!!!!

B

bgeliw95

Sorry, please explain further?

Well, I've said I missed your original post. Probbably Mr. Barozzi in his
reply has cut off the lines somehow that
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\User
Shell Folders (mentioned later in the thread... and only then I've realized
that it still is where it should bee :)) became HKEY_CURRENT_USERS\User
Shell Folder.

David Candy

The path is given in full in an earlier post. It is an abbreviation. There were 4 paths given with the two starting keys and two ending keys different, but the keys in between the same.

In the post you refer to I've only listed the first/last key to identify the full reg path from the earlier post.
