All network connections gone

Hi

I had the RPC shutdown problem on a PC here which is now resolved. It also
had the MSBlaster worm (not sure if the 2 are related) which I've now
deleted but since then I've lost all network connections under that control
panel and can't create a new one. I'm connecting with a cable modem from NTL
(in the UK). I had got a network connection for a while after the worm was
deleted but now It's not even connecting.

I haven't been able to setup a firewall as I haven't got a connection to set
it up with. Curiously under internet options my dialup connections are still
there but they aren't shown in the network connections panel.

Any ideas?

Thanks
Mark

I got the same problem after the virus...the only way i
can connect now is by turning on the auto connect through
internet options...
i downloaded all the updates and patches, maybe we have
to wait for a new patch...cause i really don't want to
reformat

First make sure that your Network Connections Service and Remote Access
Connection Manager services are running. If they are then compare the LAN
connections in the connections folder with the Network Adapter drivers in
device manager. If there is a Network Adapter driver that doesn't have a
corresponding connection in the connections folder then try reinstalling it.

The network connection service and remote access connection manager service
are running. By connections folder do you mean under network connections
control panel? I've tried reinstalling the NIC driver to no avail.

I eventually got connected to the internet by changing to usb but still no
connections showing in the network connections panel. Is there any way to
get this back?

I've also run norton antivirus with latest updates which shows no viruses
and system doctor which fixed one or two things but didn't help.

Thanks

Mark

That usually does the trick. There is an additional wrinkle with this
blaster virus going around and everyone changing RPC settings. I'll have to
look into it.
