All I get is "Error 1500" when trying to install anything on windo

I have recently noticed when trying to install new software and updates onto
my computer (windows XP home edition), that a box comes up with "error
1500:another installation is in progress" or something along those lines
after downloading the files/programme i wish to install. Another box then
comes up with "retry" and "cancel". when i press "retry", the error warning
flashes up again. when i press "cancel", the installation cancels obviously.
This occurs with many different things i am tryig to install so i assume its
not the programmes at fault. This is very frustrating, and i would appreciate
it if someone could let me know how to deal with this as i have searched on
the internet and windows etc. and a lot of things that i dont understand
comes up. Thanks very much.

According to Microsoft a simple reboot should fix this.

I am having the same problem, I have taken mine furthur in and have shut
down my computer over night with it unpluged. It seems that what ever I even
try to install anything I get this error message. I can not update my
computer or install a simple program such as ventrillo. I noticed this
problem trying to install an update for windows a few days ago and just
figured it didn't install for a differant reason and sooner or later it would
take or a newer update would over ride that one.

Flankernumber7 I understand where your coming from here. I am afraid to try
and reinstall a fix for this in my registry as I am afraid the fix will mess
something up. I am also wondering just how would you go about reformating the
hard drive/or reinstalling service pack 2 if you can't install any thing. I
am sure his fix may fix my problem as well seeing how were getting the same
messages. thank in advanced.

hi dave,
I understand how frustrating it is. The problem with this is that the vital
security downloads that windows makes, it cannot install. Which makes your
computer at further risk. I made another post after writing this one, and got
a response from a "JS". He gave me a few links within the MS database and low
and behold, the 1st one worked. Now, these links are for advanced windows
users, which i dont consider myself to be. But i was able to follow the
instructions. Just follow the instructions slowly and carefully and try not
to be phased by big words. Hope this works.

Thanks for the feedback Flanker,

I will give it a shot as I have no way of protecting my computer or
installing anything for that matter. Worse comes to worse I will just
reformat after I save everything. Go thing I can still save stuff, so that I
can back up everything that I use daily. I have printed out this article that
you gave me the link to and I will follow it step by step and see what
happens. The last time I tried to install something I got a new error that
said I have no msiexec.exe so maybe this will fix that as well. If not then I
guess that I am buying a new hd and reformatting it this week.

Thanks For the reply and the help.
Dave
