recently i updated xp pro from no hotfixes/sp's to sp1a and since then it
crashes all of my games when i try to load them. ut2k4 and sw:kotor both
crash at splash screen with error msg, but max payne 1 doesnt even load, it
will appear in the task manager for a split second but immediately disappear
without any error msg, not only that but im constantly getting some WMI error
box thing popping up and if im not at my computer for a long period of time
they will pile up literaly and ill have to close about 17-25 of them, whats
going on, is this because of sp1a? whats causing this?

Hi Atlantian,

If you're experiencing these issues since SP1a, perhaps the
installation wasn't completed successfully. Use system restore
to return your computer as it was before SP1a, and then visit
microsoft.com to upgrade directly to SP 2. I hope that helps!

first things first, i always disable system restore so as to speed up my
computer and to save necissary disk space for more important things, next,
sp2 isnt out yet, i can only find these other sp2 things like the debugging
one or some sdk thing or w/e, not the real sp2, also i have dial up so it
would take forever and by then it would be corrupted, plus this problem is
not on this computer but on my computer in my room, also i dont have auto
update on because it hogs bandwidth and whenever it finished downloading some
kind of update i get an error that says it cant install the update/hotfix/etc
i dont know what other information i can provide to explain my problems
further

If you're running that far behind in updates, I suggest you visit this web
site and take a look at the information regarding parasites and Trojans:
http://www.aumha.org/a/parasite.htm They've also got a very active Windows
XP forum there, including information on Windows XP SP2. Your system sounds
like it has multiple issues, and they need to be straightened out. BTW -
you can order the XP SP2 CD (free, including delivery) from Microsoft:
