all folders reset to shaded read only

Somehow all my folders have been reset in the properties
to a shaded read only. Everything I have tried has failed.
1) tried individual folder properties reset
2) tried group folder properties reset
3) system restore fuction to 3 differet reset points
4) created dummy user accounts
5) access from another comp on the network shows file
props correct
6) access to folders on other computers on same network,
restricted to shaded read only.

I need help.

this is "normal", that's how xp does it, all folders have the read-only
attribute set to "grey" in the properties dialog; nothing you do will make
it go away. It seems to be a quirk of the property handler for folders.

BTW, the RO attrib is NOT really set for the folder, as you can see by
using the ATTRIB command at the command prompt. Don't know why it is this
way, but it is. Don't worry, be happy!
