All files with no extention open in notepad

Hi

I have XP SP2 and whenever I open a file that does not have a known file
assosition or no extention it always opens in notepad.... how can I stop it
from happening and get to select which program I should open it with

Another possibility:

Click Start, Run and type REGEDIT.EXE
Select the HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT branch.
Locate the sub-key named . and select it.
Export (backup) the key to a file, and delete the DOT (.) branch

**IMPORTANT**: Don't delete the HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT hive. You need to delete a
sub-key named "." (DOT)
