All .exe files cannot be found

Hello...
I used AVG virus scan software and it got rid of several infected files, and
since then win xp cannot find all the .exe files, which means I cannot start
the programs except for Outlook Express and Internet Explorer that are in
the "start up box" on the desktop. So please...I need some urgent help with
this.....thanks.

I think there must be a path problem to the exe files ...any suggestion as
to correcting a path?

Since you didn't tell us what viruses you were infected with, it will
hard to to give specific cleanup advice. However, the chances are that
your system is pretty damaged and the best thing to do at this point is
format the drive, clean install Windows, reinstall programs from cd's
and restore data from backups.

Assuming the virus is gone....

Get the .exe file association fix

Unzip it and merge the reg file into your registry.

Ah hah. Clicked on the "email from Microsoft" did you? Found out the
hard way that MS never sends out patches in emails. OK, you scanned
with AVG and I don't know how well it removed the virus. Here's a link
to McAfee's information about the worm which may help you clean it up
more thoroughly. You might want to try with McAfee or Norton AV
instead.
