All about Windows 2000 add in 2nd DC

Hi All,

I have a question about Windows 2000 add in 2nd DC.

Before we using DCpromo to migrate AD, we set its DNS to the 1st DC's ip
address, right? After transfer Global Cataog and FSMO roles, I will demote
the 1st DC to a member server. My question is here:

Do I need manually change the new DC DNS resolve point to itself ip address?
Do I need manually change the old DC DNS setting to point to the new DC?
How about the DHCP server, does it automatically be transferred to the new
DC?
My old DC is also an Exchange server, does it effect anything if I demote
it?

Thanks for your reply.

more or less, you will have to do this manualy.
1. Make sure that DNS zones are AD integrated on your existing DC
2. Install DNS as part of DC promotion on new server
3. Transfer FSMO roles + make new DC a GC
4. Point your DNS settings (clients/servers) to your new DC
4. Install DHCP service on new DC and configure it (+change DNS ip address)
5. demote old DC
