Alignment problems when publishing (newbie)

Why is it that when I preview my (yet to be published) web pages in a
browser, the alignment of the text goes askew? The size of the page
in Design mode, and in the browser are the same, but it doesn't seem
to make a difference when I preview.
Also, my pictures lose some clarity/sharpness...any reason for this?!

Design view, Preview and any browser are three different browsers (if you
call Design view a browser). Different browsers render pages in different
ways. You can make them similar to each other, but often not identical.

Did you resize your images using HTML width and height parameters? This
will alter the clarity of images.
