AIW w/o HSF

Hey folks,

I have an AIW 9000 with a DVI monitor. I have just started to
reconfigure my system as an ultra-quiet alternative to the outboard motor it
used to be. Right now, the noisiest component in my box is the HSF on the
AIW. I can now clearly hear its high-pitched whine and want to eliminate
this. Are there any AIWs (besides the now very hard to find AIW 7000) that
have a passive heatsink with a DVI connector? I saw an image of the AIW
9600, but I need DVI. I have thought about replacing the fan on my card with
a Zalman or similar vga "heatpipe", but I would rather not weight-stress the
card or blow the 2 years of warranty I still have.

Thanks for any pointers,

Dave

9000 doesn't get all that hot... replace the fan.

The only ATI AIWs with DVI is the 9000Pro/9700/9800s

The Zalman would be overkill on the 9000. If you go over to
<http://www.avsforum.com> you should be able to find a discussion of
replacing the heat sink on the Radeon 8500--the same procedure should work
on the 9000--I forget the keywords that get you to the right thread though.

The 9800 AIW will work fine with the Zalman and has DVI.

Thanks for the tip, but replace it with what? Everything in my system
produces less than 25dB idle noise except for this ATI fan. The only way I
can see to get to this level would be to replace the HSF with a passive unit
or a larger fan. I don't see how the latter solution would work because of
the clip size on the card.

Any advice would be most appreciated.
