aiw 9800 tv capture crashes

I haven't been able to install the latest ccc/mmc drivers for the last
year without having problems with TV capture. All recent games run
fine (fast enough for me) given the limitations of the card. But TV
capture freezes after about 15 minutes in windowed mode and about one
hour in fullscreen mode. MMC can not be shut down when this happens,
although other programs can be run. Note that with the original
drivers TV was just fine, but, of course, recent games will not run,
e.g., the night vision goggles in splinter cell:ct don't work. ATI
support is a joke for help and I haven't found anything googling.

I've no problems with disk space, memory use, cpu use, temperature
increases or voltage fluctuations. In fact, the recent games (eg,
b-i-a) stress much more. I've tried running bare bones services and
background processes, playing with resolution and color depth settings.
Nothing makes any difference in the right direction.

All the latest drivers for my board are installed. XP sp2 is up to
date. Event record error shows: "SRB command failed; WDM." (I think
this just means that the OS didn't know what to do after the mmc
freeze.) Any suggestions? Thanks, Bill

Bill all I can say is "Me Too!"

I have an AIW 9700 Pro which had run well (MMC) for a looooong time. (I have
been running a number of systems with AIW and had never previously been
bitten by an ATI update problem, although I can't say that I wasn't warned
:) I always run the Uninstall-all-ATI prior to an update.

But starting with MMC 9.0.6 (.7 and .8 too) I started having the problem
(randomly - MMC would continue to show video but no sound and no UI controls
work - often requiring a system reboot to clean-up). Reverting to 9.0.3 did
not fix it and the problem persist after going to CCC 5.7.

Not big on gaming so none of the latest-and-greatest games here. System
resources, as with you, should be no problem. And I try very hard to keep
all software on system up-to-date.

Any suggestions? Thanks, Andre

I should note that I have always followed ATI's rules for updating.
I've also tried 4 or 5 different registry cleaning tools before hand.
Nothing made a difference. I've never been able to update from my 2 yr
old original. But, I tried a program that minimizes the "unnecessary"
startup processes/services for the best gaming experience (GameXP.exe)
and TV capture ran much longer. I haven't evaluated just what the
program turns off that I didn't in my own attempts.

That's one route. But, if you have the original drivers on CD which
came with your card, use those. Again, do all the uninstalls and
follow ATI's procedure. Your only problem will be that you won't be
able to play any of the recent (<1 yr old) games.

Thanks for the reply, Bill
