AIT 50 Tape and Microsoft 2000

Can my AIT 50 tape drive work with microsoft's backup program? I can't seem
to get it to see the tape drive. Usually I'm forced to load Veritas. But
can it be done without Veritas using the built in backup utility?
 
No.

You need a "real" software such as Arcserve.

I use Arcserve with a pair of wide-SCSI AIT2 and an ADIC 213 (dual DLT drive, 16 bay)
robotic tape system.
