Aggravating icon behavior

This is truly not a serious problem but pretty aggravating nonetheless.
Whenever I try to click on my sound icon in the taskbar in order to change
the volume, it decides to play hide and seek with me. It's there in the
taskbar at all times but when I click on it, it briefly appears and when I
reach for it, it immediately disappears. It almost teases me...pretty
aggravating I'd say. I've tinkered with everything I can think of but it
continues to want to play hide and seek. Seriously, can someone tell me how
to make it stay open for volume adjustments?

Perhap the "tooltip" is hiding it. Try leaving the mouse cursor over the
spot for 6-7 seconds. Then double click it.
