Age of Mythology Account Creation Problem

Creating a new account for Internet play through Ensemble Studios
Online is unsuccessful. After typing in the account info and
submitting, i get a popup box with nothing but "OK" on it. Clicking OK
closes the box, leaving me back on the account info screen.

What's going on here? I have firewall turned off. But I am running on
an internal router (192.168..) do I need to expose ports on my router?
That shouldn't be necessary for outbound connections.
