Age of Empires II

John

Whenever attempting to start Age of Empires II on the XP
platform I receive the following error:

Error:
AppName: empires2.exe AppVer: 0.14.14.914 ModName:
empires2.exe
ModVer: 0.14.14.914 Offset: 00206405

I have tried to run in various compatability modes with
no luck. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks.

Hi John,

You shouldn't need to use Compatibility mode for AoK.

1. To see if it's a software conflict: Temporarily disable Startup
programs one at a time, starting with Firewall, Antivirus, and ad
blockers using: http://new.jtsoft2001.com/windows/startup.php

You can lookup what a program does before you disable it here:
http://www.sysinfo.org/startuplist.php

2. Run a virus scan at: http://housecall.antivirus.com Afterwards
Download & Run Spybot from: http://security.kolla.de to find any
Trojans, Adware, or Spyware which could clog up your system.

3. Reinstall AoK

4. Click My Computer / Rightclick the Drive & Choose Properties
/ Run the "Disk Cleanup..." / Next Click the "Tools" Tab and run
the "Error-Checking" and "Defragmentation" utilities.

5. Update DirectX and your Chipset, Sound, &Video Drivers:
For all Video / DirectX / Game and Hardware Issues, I have a

Also, if you upgraded to Win XP and had AOE installed, you need to uninstall it and reinstall in able to play properly. Make sure to back up any saved games. AOE needs a new set of drivers to play on Win XP than any other OS.
