afx.exe is apparently missing for my USB

I'm pretty sure it's because of a virus but I've tried to open my external
hard drive and it's telling me that afx.exe is missing so it won't open. I
can access the drive if I search for the file names on search but that's a
pain. I've run Quickheal and it found something but I still have the
problem...running Spybot S&D now.
If the are any suggestions for an easy solution I'd love to hear them....
Thanks

A Google Groups search mentioned afx.exe a few times. The file was
probably removed, but the reference to the file was not removed from the
registry.

Click Start, Run, type REGEDIT, click OK. Press the Home key, press F3,
type the name of the file into the search pane. Click "Find Next", and
when located, MODIFY the reference to the file. I suspect it will read
"explorer.exe afx.exe" or something similar. You'll need to modify it
to read "explorer.exe". Press F3 to continue the search for more
references to that file.

You can click File, Export, and save the entry to the Desktop. If you
remove it and there's a problem, double-click the .reg file you exported
to the Desktop and it'll be added to the registry again. You can create
a restore point before editing the registry too.

If you have any doubts about what to do when you find an entry, post
what "folder" is opened in the l-h column and what data is shown in the
r-h column and maybe we can steer you towards a resolution.

Run a /thorough/ check for hijackware, including posting your hijackthis log
to an appropriate forum.

When all else fails, HijackThis v2.0.2
(http://aumha.org/downloads/hijackthis.exe) is the preferred tool to use.
It will help you to both identify and remove any hijackware/spyware with
assistance from an expert. **Post your log to

analysis, not here.**

If the procedures look too complex - and there is no shame in admitting this
isn't your cup of tea - take the machine to a local, reputable and
independent (i.e., not BigBoxStoreUSA) computer repair shop.

I tried downloading Hijackthis from your link but it's not working. It's
definitely a virus.....pretty sure it's a trojan.

It keeps telling me that Hijackthis has been started from a temp folder and
that I should copy it to another folder as temp folders are regularly deleted.

Put HJT.exe on your desktop and run it from there. Then get help from
one of the many specialty forums that PA Bear already gave you.
