After muting modem, it is NOT muted!!!

I went to the control panel already. I guess I should
have put that on my first message. I muted the modem a
long time ago through the control panel and it still makes
those annoying sounds.

Some modems need init strings to mute or lower the volume

Try the "m0" or atm0 setting to mute the volume (in the modem properties >
advanced tab)

Advanced

Type m0 (that's 'm' followed by "zero") in the "Extra Initialisation
Commands"

And some modems ignore whatever you do to lower the volume.
