After I downloaded patch, it tells me there's new hardware

I downloaded several patches after all the scares of
viruses lately, and now my computer tells me that I have
a new printer. Of course, I don't, and the printer works
fine. Since I can't find my printer disc, I don't want
to uninstall and reinstall just to make this dialog box
go away. (And HP wants money for a new disc. I am
unemployed.) I just want the dialog box to go away
unless there really is something corrupted about the
printer software. Help!

You will have to install the complete Windows XP driver package (which is
available FREE from HP - if they have one). Extract the driver package and
burn it to a CD. Start the install from the CD. If you have a multi-function
printer, you may have to reboot 2-3 times for everything to be installed
properly.
