After crash, must I reregister my Win XP Home Edition?

After my computer crashed, for reasons that are still not the slightest bit
clear, and I had to reinstall Win XP, I received -- once -- a request that I
register my Home Edition. This request did not reappear. Must I reregister?
How can I tell if it is necessary? Will MS believe that I have merely
reinstalled and not leant my disks to someone else?

If the O/S doesn't request anything from you, don't worry about it. All
is well.
